ADS1292: test signals in singleshot mode and DRDY drift with multiple devices

Part Number: ADS1292

Hello everybody,

I have a questions regarding the ADS1292 running in singleshot mode: Is it possible to use the internal testsignal in that mode? If I run the ADS in continuous mode, I can measure the testsignal just fine, but when I switch to the singleshot mode, I only receive bulls*** (with gain 6 I receive a very noisy signal at 6V with a deviation of +/- 0.5V but nothing close to a rectangular signal with 1Hz). Using a programmable power supply as a signal generator I already verified that the singleshot mode is indeed working (with a lot more noise than in the continuous mode), but the test signal doesn't.

Also I used a multiple device configuration with 3 ADS1292 driven by the same external clock. Starting them synchronously in continuous mode and all with the same datarate, I noticed that the Data_Ready signals were drifting. So I wonder if it is expected that it can take one ADS1292 more clockcycles for a conversion than another one?

Thanks already!

Regards, Nicholas

  • Hi Nicholas,

Welcome to the TI E2E forum!

Could you share an image of your waveform? It would help for me understand what kind of problem you may be facing.

In regards to daisy-chaining multiple ADS1292 devices, the devices may not be properly synced at the same time. Could you share a screenshot of the DRDY waveform?

Another note; when moving from continuous to singe-shot mode, a START signal needs to be pulsed or sending a STOP followed by START command is needed.

    Kind regards,
    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

thanks for your response, but we decided to adjust the hardware so that we can use all the DRDY pins. This way we don't have to daisy chain the devices and can still use the continuous mode. This is working fine so far.

  • Hi Nicholas,

Duly noted. Glad that a solution was found. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this thread or open another ticket.

    Kind regards,
