TLV5616: Inquiry

Part Number: TLV5616

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with TLV5616. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

I would like to use a TLV5616 in a design and am wondering about three things

1) is it necessary to use the FS to initiate a write sequence or can I leave this pin low all the time?

2) The REFIN input - I assume this is to set FS output? (Documentation isn't clear). Do I set this at 1/2 Vout desired (3V FS is what I want, can I use a voltage divider and capacitor to set 1.5V on the FS pin?) or do I set this to 3V if I want a 3V FS output?

3) If I want a 3V FS output is it better to use 3.3V on VDD?

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

    1) It looks like it is more important for FS to be pulled low and high based on the highlighted sections:

FS can be used as the CS and CS can be tied low. The device will operate in 3-wire mode.

Just make sure the timing requirements are met for FS:

    2) The output will be two times the reference input. This is mentioned in a few places, but I think this note makes it the most clear that the reference needs to be half of VDD if you want the output range to be 0 to VDD:

The FS pin is the 'frame sync' pin. You'd set 1.5V on the REFIN pin to set the 3V 'full scale' output.

    3) Yes. The output buffer is rail to rail but there will still be some headroom requirements based on the load:
