DAC80504: DAC80504 Output Range Configuration

Part Number: DAC80504

Hi Team,

We are using DAC80504, however I have one question regarding the datasheet. In page 22, it mentioned it is not recommended to use the device in div by 1 and gain X1 mode. May I know the reason? What will happen if we use in that region?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mark,

I double checked with the designer on this, and the recommendation was originally made to avoid confusion in cases where the supply voltage/ref voltage combination would be problematic. There is no functional difference in the two highlighted cases that would make one recommended over the other as long as the reference voltage is meeting the requirements from table 7.3

What really matters to the device is the post ref divider voltage. The divider is disabled in the ÷1 and ×1 region, so as long as the reference voltage is between 1.2V and VDD/2 or (VDD-0.2)/2 depending on your VDD, then the device will operate fine. One thing to point out is that the internal reference of 2.5V will not meet the requirements in this mode unless your VDD is 5V or greater. That may be another reason why they listed it as not recommended in table 1 on page 22.

    Best,
