ADS7953-Q1: 2xVREF Range

Part Number: ADS7953-Q1

Hi team,

The IC runs from Vref = 2.5V reference and can sense 2 x Vref. Does the IC generate 2 x Vref internally so it can sense the full range? Or is it internally halving the input signal to accommodate a 2 x Vref range?

Just want to understand how the IC can sense twice the Vref range.

Also, for unused GPIO pins, I assume those should be left floating?

Thanks,

Jacob

  • Hi Jacob,

It is my understanding the the 2*VREF is generated internally from the external reference provided. You can use 2*Vref mode even with a supply less than 2*Vref (Just don't provide an analog signal > VDD + 0.3 to the analog inputs).

As for the GPIO pins, they are configured as inputs by default. Because of this, I would connected them to GND via a pull-down resistor to avoid an unwanted state or unwanted power consumption.

  • Hi Aaron,

Do we have any details on how that 2*VREF is created? .

The customer's main question is "how does that work?" considering there's no details in the datasheet. Especially if it's still valid with a supply less than 2*VREF.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

  • Hi Jacob,

Unfortunately, I do not have this detail and even if I did, I am not sure I would be able to share it. Does the customer have any specific use case they are worried about?
