DAC8830: Is it possible to get 0-5V output from a 2.5Vref?

Part Number: DAC8830

I'm making a single supply design, and I'm concerned I won't be able to get a precise 5V reference off a 5V supply. I know current-feedback DACs can do this but wasn't sure about regular R-2R DACs, can I feed 2.5V into the AGND pin and then use 2.5V for the Vref so the DAC outputs AGND +/- 2.5V thereby giving me 5V? Is that a valid or am I misreading the datasheet and how DACs work?

  • Hi,

You can use the output op amp in Gain  =2 configuration to get 0 to 2*Vref.

There are op amps which can work with single supply 5V and has rail to rail input/output capabilities.

For this device AGND has to be 0V +/- 300mV (max). No level shifting of GND pin allowed.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
