ADC selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1259, PGA280

Hi,

I need to measure output of vibration sensors. These are all bridge type outputs. They operate from 8-32 V range excitation. So my common mode is always 4-16V.

I need to find an 16 bit ADC and 4 channel MUX and an Amplifier.

Sensor outputs are in the range of 10 - 600 mV. max.,frequency 1 to 128 Hz.

Does any one knows any part numbers suitable?

  • Hello,

Since this is a sensor application, I believe it is best for the Precision Analog team to answer this question. I will move this post to the appropriate forum.

    Hi chaitanyab,

We'll look through our portfolio of data converters and see what we have that might help you out here.

  • Hi Chaitanyab,

A possible solution is to use the PGA280 + ADS1259 + External Mux.

The input stage of the PGA280 allows you to use +/-18V supply or VSP-VSN = 36V; enough range to accomodate the common-mode voltage requirement.  The output stage of the PGA280 is biased with the output stage supplies VSON=0V and VSOP=5V to be able connect the device to the ADS1259.

The ADS1259 datasheet shows an application for the ADS1259+PGA280 on page 41, figure 64.

The PGA280 has a built-in two input mux at the front end; however you could use the device's GPIO's to connect an external Mux in order to be able to measure your four bridge sensors; as shown on the block diagram on page 1 of the PGA280 datasheet.  Let me know if you think this will work for you.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis
