App note to program ADS8556 Control register using McASP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8556

Hi,

I am using ADS8556 precision ADC in my design.

It is connected to a C6713 DSP through the McASP interface.

I want to know if there is an Application Note or source code to program the

ADC control register. Where can I find it?

Please let me know ASAP.

Thanks,

Aditi.

  • Hi Aditi,

Thank you for your interest in the ADS8556!

Unfortunately we don't have anything readily available for the McASP of the TMS320C6713 that sets up the control register of the ADS8556 device.  I'll look around to see if there are any generic code examples that get the McASP running though.  I suspect you want to use SDOA, B and C of the ADS8556 into three McASP channels - is that correct?

  • Tom,

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

We plan to use only SDO_A for all the 6 channels (3 pairs of channels).

If you can get me the McASP initialization to program the codec that would be really good.

    Thanks

    Aditi

  • Hi Aditi,

Interesting!  I thought perhaps that you were planing on the McASP so that you could take advantage of the three SDO's and the multiple receive channels (1 32-bit transmit to the ADS8556, three 32-bit receives from SDOx) to hit the higher throughput speeds of the serial interface.  Is there any specific reason why you would not use the McBSP port of the TMS320C6713 instead?

I put a call into our C6000 applications folks to see if they have anything in their code example archives that might give you a head start here on the McASP.  If you can use the McBSP, I might have something for you...

  • Tom,

Frankly, this was not a board that I designed.

We just got the custom board and it has the McASP connected to the ADC (only one channel pair active).

Now I have to try and figure out a way to program the ADC and get the 6 channel data into the DSP.

    Thanks,

    Aditi.

  • Hi Aditi,

I thought I had a lead from the C6000 apps guys, but so far it is not panning out.  You might try taking a look at this application note:
