ADS1258 Fixed Channel Mode....

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438, ADS1258

Hi

  I am using MSP430F5438 and ADS1258 and i can read and write the registers inside the ADS1258.I have setup the following register

Config0 = 0x2A           ...Fixed Channel Mode,Clock ouptut on CLKIO enabled and Status byte enabled

Config1=0x00 ...Standy mode,No delay ,DRATE[1:0]=0x00

MUXSCH=0x11 Select AINP0 and AINN0

I am switching on the START line and keeping it high but i do not see and DRDY line going low .Am i suppose to do something in between the START and DRDY?

Thanks

  • Hi Chintan,

    Make sure that the /RESET and /PWDN pins, pins 10 and 11, are pulled high so that the device is not in one of those two modes. This part requires a external master clock source, that could either come from a crystal 32.768KHz oscillator to create 15.729MHz using the internal PLL circuit or an external clock being fed directly. Depending on what source you decide to use, make sure that the CLKSEL pin is set accordingly. Aside from those few things, once START is pulled high, the part should begin converting and /DRDY should show a falling edge indicating new data is available.

  • Hi Tony

      Thanks for that but i have those pin pulled high and also the CLKSEL is low.Still cant to get it work.I am using ADS1258EVM board and that is connected to the MSP430F5438.Any thing specific to EVM board (it is with MMBO) I am powering up the EVM through the wall supply and i have left the USB port on EVM board unconnected.

  • Hi Chintan,

    I am a little confused about your setup. Do you have the ADS1258EVM connected to the DSP based MMB0 or are you using your own motherboard that uses the MSP430F5438? If you are using the ADS1258EVM board, I would recommend taking a look over the schematic to make sure everything is powered. You will notice that on the schematic we have U11, which is a level translator for the /DRDY line. That could be where your hold up is. Are you probing and looking for /DRDY on the J6 header or are you probing at the pin of the device?

    Regards,

    Tony Calabria

  • Hi Tony

       I am using the MMBO which comes with the ADS1258EVM. I am probing on the J6.I will try to see if the level translator for /DRDY will change anything.

    Thanks

  • Hi Tony

      Thank you for your thought on the MMBO board.I did get DRDY to work it was the issue with Start line Jumper connection on EVM board.

    Thanks
