ADS131E08: Better ENOB PN

Part Number: ADS131E08
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278

Checking he datasheet, we realized the ENOB to this PN working with 16ksps is 17bit and our application needs at least 20bits.

Do you know an alternative part with at least six simultaneous channels with this mentioned ENOB?

  • Hi Alberto.

    Thank you for your post.

The ADS1278 may be the closest option to meet your requirements. This device is quite different than the ADS131xxx family since there is no integrated input amplifier or internal reference voltage, which means you'll need to design those circuits discretely. However, in High-Resolution Mode and VREF = 2.5 V, the typical noise spec is 5.5 uVrms, which equates to about 19.79 bits ENOB (using ENOB = log2[ 2xVREF / (Gain x Vn_rms)] ). This spec assumes the nominal clock frequency of 27 MHz, which yields a final output data rate of 52,734 kSPS. To reduce the data rate to 16 kSPS, simply scale the input clock frequency by the same factor of 16 / 52.734 (i.e. CLK = 8.192 MHz). The noise performance will be slightly improved or the same from this typical spec.
