ADS8588H: Power on Reset

Part Number: ADS8588H

Hi,

According to the datasheet

"The device must always be reset after power-up as well as after recovery from shut-down mode
when all the supplies and references have settled to the required accuracy."

As expected, is it necessary to toggle the RESET pin after power-on?

We have successfully replaced the AD76xx and now the customer's system is working fine.

Recently, the AD76xx board had problems starting up at low temperatures.
According to the customer, the AD7606 needs an additional RESET toggle at power up.

The ADS8588H uses the same software as the AD7606, so it is necessary to check if there are any problems.

I really appreciate TI Team support.

Best regards,
Hiroshi

  • Hi Hiroshi,

This is a common recommendation not only for this ADC but also for TI's other ADCs. A startup test with critical conditions was done on ADS8588H/S before they were released to the market. We did not receive any startup issue reported in the past.

    Thanks&regards,

    Dale

  • Hi Dale,

I forgot to tell you something important.

Customer's existing software does not include HW RESET at startup.

If this process is a common recommendation for TI's ADCs,
Is it correct to understand that normal operation cannot be guaranteed without this process?

Depending on the answer, the customer will need to change the software, so please let me confirm.

    Best regards,

    Hiroshi

  • Hi Hiroshi,

I would recommend the customer to follow up the suggestion in the datasheet.

    Best regards,

    Dale
