TSW1400EVM: speed of USB transfer to HSDC Pro

Part Number: TSW1400EVM

I would like to know how fast the data transfer is when sending collected samples from the onboard memory of the TSW1400 to the PC when using HSDC Pro. Initially I assumed this would be close to the USB 2.0 limit of 480 Mbps, but after reading a thread (here) that suggests it may take around 20 minutes to send 2 seconds of 80 MHz samples, I'm not sure. Since that is an old thread, maybe some things have changed since then.

I would also like to know the same thing for TSW14J50. If USB transfer speed is significantly faster for this board, that may influence my choice of which one to use.

Thanks

  • Erich,

See attached file. The speed shown for the TSW14J56 Rev B, which uses the same USB2.0 interface as the TSW1400 and TSW14J50, should be about the same.

The TSW14J50, TSW14J56 and TSW14J57 only work with JESD204B interface EVM's. They will not work with LVDS & CMOS interface EVM's. The TSW1400 cannot work with JESD204B EVM's as it can only interface to LVDS or CMOS EVM's.

Choosing between a TSW14J50EVM and a TSW1400EVM is really not an option for you.

  • Thanks for that timing information.

There are in fact EVMs that support both LVDS and JESD204B, for example, AFE58JD28EVM. I'm considering either that or AFE58JD48EVM.

In my use case, I am mostly interested in post processing the raw ADC samples after saving them to a computer. The J56 seems like it would be a lot easier to work with given the higher throughput. Are you aware of any other options that would reduce the time to collect raw samples below 19 minutes per GB? It looks like the J57 also uses USB 3.0, but the cost is significantly higher for that board.

  • Erich,

I do not think it takes this long to capture 1G samples when using the AFE58JD28EVM. I am moving this post to the medical data converter forum as they cover this EVM and may have more info regarding the actual time required to capture this amount of data.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Is there a medical data converter forum? I am not seeing it.

  • This post is now being seen by the medical group. The post goes to the forum based on the part number. If you create a new post using just the AFE58JD28EVM part number, it will be assigned to their group.

  • Still waiting for a follow up on this question.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has more insight on this, or can confirm if the overall throughput for saving raw samples would be faster with the AFE58JD28EVM (or similar). If what I found initially is correct (20 min per GB), then it would be nice to know that so I can move on and make a decision.

  • Hi Erich,

Our team is currently held up with a high volume of customer questions. We need to check this in the lab and I will give you an update by 3 Nov (Thursday).

    Regards,

    Karthik

  • Hi Erich,

Yes, the overall throughput for TSW1400EVM is still 20 min per GB irrespective of which ADC or AFE you use it with. This number will same for TSW14J50EVM as well.

    Thanks,

    Karthik
