ADS1292: I use 3 leads RA, LA and LL and don't use RL Lead.

Part Number: ADS1292

Hello I'm SY HONG a hardware engineer in korea.

I have a question for ADS1292.

Out product have 3 leads RA, LA and LL.

And I want to use internal RLD block without RL lead.

Therefore I connected the lines like the following schematic.

I will remove the line between RLDOUT and RLDINV and add 1M resistor and 1.5nF capacitor.

And we set registor as follows.

RLD_SENS : 0b11111111

RESP2 : 0b00000111

I would like to know if I can use the RLD circuit function without RL electrode if I set it as above.

Thanks

Best regards

SY HONG

  • Hi,

TI does not recommend not to use RLD electrode.

However, if customer really doesn't want to use RLD electrode, the schematic provided seems all right. But, customer will need to do test for the proper bias resistors values(R7, R10 and R13) and consider and test whether putting a DC blocking(i.e. AC coupled) capacitors in series with the electrode traces before reaching to the RLD biased nodes; reasons are below -

DC coupling electrode –  mechanism to set body bias is weak (through the bias resistors) and susceptible to coupling

    (OR)

AC coupling electrode – DC blocking(i.e. AC coupled) capacitors introduce a HPF which can distort the ECG baseline

And then, customers may need to do some digital filtering/DSP to clean the noises.

It's suggested to use an evaluation kit/board(EVM) to do some tests and analysis before making decision.

    Thanks.
