ADS131M06: Noise performance

Part Number: ADS131M06
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to clarify about the noise performance of ADS131M06. According to our customer,

I have a question regarding the noise performance of the ADC, part number ADS131M06.

In the datasheet, the Noise((μVRMS) is the same for a gain of 32 or 64 or 128. How this noise has been measured? Why it is the same for the 3 gain levels?

We use currently the ADC part number ADS1220. In the datasheet, we can find different noise performance according to the gain.

Please find the attached image which shows the noise performance of the two parts I mentioned.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Danilo,

    Edited to correct response:

The lower gain for the ADS131M06 is a switched capacitor PGA.  The higher gains 64, 128 are digital gains.  This means that in a gain of 64 the PGA gain is actually set to 32 and the conversion is multiplied by 2.  For a gain of 128 the gain is set to 32 and the conversion result is multiplied by 4.  Since this is a math operation and not and actual gain, the noise is constant for all gains greater then or equal to 32.

    Best regards,
