ADS1258: Random non responsive device

Part Number: ADS1258

Hello, we are using an ADS1258 which randomly is non-responsive for about 15.6ns. We are using the following setup: all inputs pulled to zero volt, all settings/registers are set to default, very stable power supply all across, external crystal has no issues and we are not communicating with the device. We are measuring CLKIO as output and DRDY, both have output zero volt during a non-responsive period.

Does anyone know why this might happen?

See images below for CLKIO output:

  • Hi Peter Bontenbal,

If the CLKIO output is not as expected this is usually either an issue with the power supplies or the crystal. I would start with the crystal as we commonly see crystal startup issues. You can search through e2e to find numerous posts related to crystal startup issues with the ADS1258

The quickest way to check if the crystal is the issue is to replace the crystal with a discrete clock oscillator. You can probably just blue-wire it in for this test. You should be able to monitor the DRDY pin to see if the device still has these non responsive periods.

Let us know what you discover
