Hi Team,
Page 10 of the AMC7834 datasheet shows the DAC load current at +/-10mA minimum. Does this imply that the DAC won't conduct unless it sources/sinks atleast +/-10mA? Our customer intends to source/sink around 5mA (due to load max current constraints). How would that impact the DAC operation? Or would it be even possible?

Hi Jejomar,
The sink/source limits are ±10mA, meaning that if you sink beyond ±10mA, the DACs output impedance will increase until the load hits the short-circuit limit, at which point it will clamp to the supply rail. If the load is <10mA and >-10mA, you can expect normal linear operation of from the DAC. No load is required, but your 5mA condition does not present any issues.

Many thanks for your response! As a follow-up query, if I was to pre-load the output of the DAC with a resistor to guarantee the output current range to be within 10-45mA source/sink (so my real load does not overcurrent), would this cause any issues? Or is this an acceptable way to approach this?
Also, if this approach has been taken before is there a better way, or were there any approaches that came up?

Hi Jejomar,
I am not sure how an external load resistor would help here. I recommend you only use the ~5mA customer load. If you expect the external load to exceed the ±10mA load current while still having the requirement of a linear output voltage, then I suggest you buffer the output with a more capable op amp buffer.
