ADS1235: Datasheet Clarifications

Part Number: ADS1235

Hello,

I am designing a PCB using the ADS1235 on the design. In the Datasheet its states to "To minimize input leakage of the measurement channel, tie unused inputs to mid-supply voltage (AVDD +AVSS) / 2 or to AVDD." Then later in the datasheet it shows all the unused Inputs tied to AVDD. Is there any benefit to tie the inputs to AVDD/2?

Also, I have received a schematic with the part using a External Crystal for the ADS1235 but I am working with very limited space and would like to remove it. The internal clock seems almost identical to the External clock the customer chose, is there any benefit to using the external clock over the internal one other than specification?

Thank you in advance.

Nathan

  • Hi Nathan B,

There is no benefit to tying the unused input channels to AVDD/2 versus AVDD

Regarding the external clock: the benefit of using an external clock is the ability to change the output data rates (they scale with fCLK) and/or tighter accuracy specifications compared to the internal oscillator. If the data rates and internal oscillator accuracy specifications are sufficient for your application, then using an external clock is likely unnecessary
