DAC Offset Error and Gain Error

Hi Team,

Good day!

I’m Victoria and learning DAC products. I have a question about this precision labs video about DAC calibration. I have tried to find the presenter guy, but I was not able find him. Could you please kindly make it clear?

Here are 2 screenshots about the presentation. It seems not same between them about the definition of Gain Error and Offset Error.  It’s a little bit confusing and I would like to know which one is correct. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Victoria

  • Hi Victoria,

I think the second screenshot (the one with the equations) is a more accurate representation of the offset and gain errors. The DAC transfer function is a line which can be represented by the equation y = mx + b. Offset error is the error in the 'b' term of the equation, and the gain error is the error in the 'm' term or slope of the equation.
