Low Frequency Current Source for RCD from OBC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC8750

as Functional safety will ask if the RCD is reliable. therefore,is there any design to generate Low Frequency Current Source for RCD from OBC?

  • Qianli,

We don't have any specific designs to generate a low frequency current source for residual current detection (RCD). Also, I'm not sure what sort of resources would be available from the on-board charger (OBC) that could be used to perform this task.

In the data converter group, we do have some current output DACs that can be used to generate current outputs. For example a DAC8750 can be used to generate a current output from 0 to 24mA. While the DAC8750 was designed for driving current loops for factory automation and control (like in 4-20mA loops), perhaps it could be used for this application.

I would note that most of the time this question would be routed to the current sensing forum, but it ended up in the data converter forum. I did mention this post to one of the current sensing applications engineers. If you follow up with additional questions, he may be able to respond as well.
