ADS7138: Autonomous mode, reset before config?

Part Number: ADS7138

Hi Folks,

When using the ADS7138 in Autonomous Mode and trying to follow the datasheet in terms of the sequence order:

A couple of questions come up:

  1. Before configuring the channels;  should there be a Software reset? ( Reg 0x01<0> = 1 and clear the BOR bit (Reg 0x0<0>)
    1. If yes, how long should one wait after issuing the command before doing anything?
  2. Can we confirm that CNVST (Reg 0x01<3>) is not used in  Autonomous Mode.
  • Hi Chris,

I normally do recommend starting with a reset - it helps to ensure that the ADS7138 is starting from a known good condition after power-up.  Section 8.4.4 of the datasheet talks about Autonomous Mode - the start of conversion is generated by an internal oscillator.  The host processor needs to apply the initial CNVST, and then it free runs from there.
