ADS131M08EVM: To test functionality of SYNC pin, can I just connect the SYNC pins from two different ADS131M08 EVMs?

Part Number: ADS131M08EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131M08

Hi team,

If I want to test the sync pin (trying to achieve synchronous conversion), can I take two ADS131M08 EVMs, connect their SYNC pins via a jumper wire or some other connection, and test the devices this way? Is there anything to be aware of or look out for? Will a jumper wire work well enough to see if I can get synchronous conversion (within 10s of micro seconds)?

Thanks,
Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

In general, a single SYNC pulse plus common clock and register settings are all that's required to synchronize conversions between two ADS131M08 devices. A jumper wire between EVMS (plus a shared ground connection) should be sufficient.

Does the customer plan to read data from both EVMs? Each EVM+PHI controller can only talk to one PC's GUI at a time. At minimum, they can monitor the DRDYn pins to ensure synchronization.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the quick response :)

1- Thank you for the feedback!

2- They want to make sure the conversions are synchronous. I will suggest monitoring the DRDYn pins to ensure synchronization. It sounds like if they wanted to read the data of two EVMs they would need two PCs. I believe either option will be accessible to them.
