ADS8344: Inquiry

Part Number: ADS8344

Hi,

Good Day.

  1. What is Minimum Relative Accuracy (LSB)? (I assume this means the lower number is more favorable on the NB part as the accuracy is correct to within 6 LSBs instead of 8 LSBs. Is my interpretation correct?
  2. What is meant by the Minimum “No of Missing Codes” which is 14 for the N part and 15 for the NB part? I’m not sure which is more favorable or what this even means or when during part operation this applies. Would you please opine on this?

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

A1.) The Minimum Relative Accuracy column on page 2 refers to the Integral Linearity Error shown on page 3.   The lower number is better - correct.  The actual LSB size is shown in Note 1 on page 3 as 76 uV.

A2.) Please refer to Figure 7 in the datasheet.  Each 'output code' would represent one step in the staircase plot shown - there would be 65536 steps all together with an ideal ADC.  Missing codes means that one or more of those 'steps' in the staircase is missing.  Essentially like this as a simple example:

If code 0x0001 was 'missing' the output would never hit that code, there would always be a jump from code 'a' to 'c' bypassing code 'b'.  So, '14-bits No Missing Codes' means that two of these steps may be missing.  The NB device would have maximum of one step missing.
