Dear Sir/Madam,

I am planning to use TSW1400EVM and ADS58J89EVM for a high speed data acquisition project. Before I purchase the boards I wanted see if the design is feasible.

I want to use TSW1400EVM to capture data from ADS58J89EVM at 500msps for 100ms (about 50 million data points or about 100MB of data) and store them in the on board DDR memory of TSW1400EVM . Then read that data into an external computer over several minutes through USB (read time is not critical) . I am planning to use the HSDC Pro Automation DLL in python to read the data and save in numpy. This process will repeat every hour.

Can this be achieved using the two EVMs ?

I realized TSW1400EVM and ADS58J89EVM might not be compatible together. So same question but I use TSW1400EVM with ADS58H43EVM at a sampling freq of 250MSPS for 100ms.

Chamika,

You will be able to capture up to 131M samples per channel at 250Msps with this setup.

Jim,

Thank you for the clarification. I have a followup question. I am planning to have a raspberry pi collect the data from the TSW1400 EVM at regular intervals (every 30 mins or so). I am planning to write my own python script for this. Do you have any sample python scripts that I can use as reference.

How do you plan on transferring the data from the TSW1400 to the raspberry pi?

Jim,

I was planing to use one of its usb ports ( its a pi 4 B). If thats not optimal I am open to other suggestions as well.

Hello Jim,

The example python codes uses the automation DLL with requires the HSDC Pro GUI installed. However HSDC Pro GUI is not compatible with Raspberry Pi (no Arm Linux package available). Is there a way to directly communicate with the TSW1400EVM without the HSDC Pro GUI installed ? Or can you suggest an alternative way to communicate with the TSW1400EVM from an Arm-linux system ?

I do not know much about the Arm-linux system. Basically, the options for communicating with the FPGA on the board are as follows:

1. USB interface,

2. Connectors J2-J4

3.JTAG connector J4

If you do not use HSDC Pro, your interface will require custom firmware that you would have to generate.

Jim,

We have started looking into developing custom firmware. I wanted to request two requests to help with our development.

1. Can you share the source code for the HSDC Pro.

2. We do not believe the firmware project shared is the latest. Because when we compile the code and dump into the FPGA the HSDC pro does not show support for the ADS58H40EVM we are using (no black diamond on the GUI). Can you share the latest version of the firmware project with support for ADS58H40EVM.

Chamika,

1. TI does not share the HSDC Pro GUI source code.

2. The only firmware available can be found under the TSW1400EVM product folder on the TI website. It was created by a third party vendor that no longer supports TI.
