ADS1299: For fetal ECG, 3 lead and 5 lead ECG.

Genius 15649 points
Part Number: ADS1299
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1293

Hi Experts,

Seeking your assistance on this query:

We are looking for an IC to measure both fetal ECG, 3 lead and 5 lead ECG.

Can it be done on ADS1299? Or do I have to use ADS1293 for 3 lead and 5 lead applications?

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi,

    -----------------------------

I don't have experience and not an expert of "Fetal" ECG.

Can customer clarify a bit more about the "Fetal" ECG and what they are thinking/planning to do?

Also, how is "Fetal ECG" measured and Are the "Fetal ECG" signal amplitude, frequency, waveform, characteristics, etc very different from Adult ECG?

    --------------------------------------

    Can customer clarify the following

    1. Are 3 lead  or 5 lead  one product or two different products?

    2. Which 3 leads and which 5 leads?

    3. Do they accept lead obtained from post calculation?

    4. how many ADS1x9x do they plan to use?

    5. Ask them to take a look of ADS1293 datasheet 9.1 Application Information page 63 to 66 to see if those meet their needs? If yes, then they could use ADS1293.

    ---------------------------------

ADS1299 was designed for EEG(that has smaller amplitude) although some people may use it for ECG.

    -----------------------------------

Either one, it's suggested customer buy an evaluation kit/board(EVM) to do some preliminary tests, experiment and evaluation and to get some understanding and learning before moving forward.

    Thanks

  • Hello ChienChun,

    Thanks for your response.

Fetal ECG is ECG of baby inside mother when she is pregnant.
It is mentioned in the application points of ads1299.

3 lead and 5 lead can be in one product like ads1293 supports both 3 lead and 5 lead ECG placement.

We just want to know if the same is possible with ads1299? We got your point. But our concern is to use ads1299 for 3 lead and 5 lead application.
    Is that possible?

    Regards,
    Archie A.

  • Hi,

I am assuming your 3 leads could be the 3 primary leads.

May I ask which 5 leads are you referring to?

Note that  ADS1299 don't have WCT feature and capability, nor PACE and these are major reasons&differences between ECG and EEG applications.

    --------------------------

I think it could be possible to use ADS1299, but still suggest to get and evaluation kit/board(EVM) to do some preliminary tests and evaluations.

Some people use ADS1299 for adult ECG and EEG,  I just haven't heard for fetal ECG.

    -------------------

    Thanks

  • Hi ChienChun,

    Thank you.

Here in ADS1299 datasheet it is mentioned Fetal ECG.
So, it is possible to measure Fetal ECG right?

Can you confirm that? We have attached a screenshot of that page.

    Regards,
    Archie A.

  • Hi,

I will need to confirm with other Engineer.

    In the meantime,

May I ask which 3 leads and 5 leads are you referring to?

    Thanks,

  • Hello ChienChun,

    Thank you.

The customer is referring to 3 lead and 5 lead used in ADS1293. 3 lead and 5 lead are different config for ECG electrodes placement.

    Regards,
    Archie A.

  • Hi,

After talking to other engineer, ADS1299 could support fetal ECG, but it may not be as easy and straight forward as Adult ECG measurement.

Again, we are not profession and expert for Fetal ECG measurement if the electrodes placement are different from the Adult ECG placement.

    Thanks
