ADS7028: How to configure timing

Part Number: ADS7028
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC128S022

Hi,

ADS7028 is a relatively new product, I have customer selection, now I have some questions to know:

1. Whether ADS7028 chip is applicable to FPGA control ?   If so, how do you use it? Is there any relevant information available?

2. Timing diagram can probably understand, datasheet inside the data how to assign value to control? (such as automatic mode, manual mode selection, CRC check, whether to start the average module, etc.)

3.  I am familiar with TI's ADC128S022 chip. Could you use ADS7028 chip according to the guidance of this chip?

Many thanks~

  • Hi Rhea,

1.) The ADS7028 has an SPI interface similar to that of the ADC128S022.  The main difference is that the ADS7028 needs to have its chip select pin (/CS pin 11) needs to toggle with every conversion cycle.  Implementing an SPI interface on an FPGA is pretty common.

2.) Review Figure 32 on page 24.  Changing the registers is accomplished by a 24-bit word with an Opcode, Register Address and Data.

3.) See #1 - the ADS7028 would need a burst clock (true SPI mode), and the /CS must toggle between conversions.

  • Hi Tom,

After power-on, are all register configurations the default values in the documentation without any action?

    Thanks for your support !

  • Hi Rhea,

Yes - all power on/reset defaults states are as noted in the datasheet.
