DAC3283: DAC Fundamentals: NSD to Phase noise Reg.

Part Number: DAC3283

HI TI Team,

In the thread "">e2e.ti.com/.../dac3283-phase-noise-detail-of-the-part-reg" , I enquired about the close in phase noise data (from 10Hz of fundamental) of DAC.

NSD plots of the part was shared as reference.

1)Isn't NSD used as a metric to characterize wide band phase noise/ Noise floor?

2)I was wondering, is there a way to calculate the below needed Close in phase noise from NSD data?

Offset          Phase noise(dBc/Hz)

100Hz

1KHz

100KHz

Thanks in advance,

Deva

  • Hi,

Correct. NSD was measured in dBm/Hz. It is measured 20MHz away from the fundamental tone so the impact of close-in phase noise is not contributing to the measurement. We use in lab signal generator as clock source to minimize the noise of the clock to the DAC itself.

Unfortunately, no. the close in phase noise will need to be measured. The close-in phase noise will be dependent on:

    1. clock source to the DAC

    2. power supply source to the DAC.
