DAC161S997EVM: EVM cannot detect COM port

Joe might be able to help with more suggestions when he is back in office. 

But when you did the install, did you install the FTDI drivers that come up after the EVM install?

One other thing to try would be to enter in the COM port manually. If the EVM appears on COM8, you should be able to click on the selection window and type in "COM8". (Like I did below)

Yes! FDTI driver installed and finished without error.

However, while trying to read the status, there is an error message pops up.

There were a couple of pieces to the e2e post that you referenced. Is the DAC161S997EVM the only EVM being used? I just wanted to see what other COM ports were being used. Also, when you get this error message, is the loop power attached to the board?

At this point, I think it's worth them starting over and have them uninstall the software. Then have them re-install it. When they re-install it, I would not connect the EVM while it is installing. 

When the software is finally installed, then attach the EVM with the loop power. After everything is connected, start up the EVM GUI software.

1. They only use DAC161S997 EVM now. The loop power is also provided. 

2. I also asked customer to uninstall GUI and re-install it again. After asking them to install NI driver, the GUI can detect the COM port automatically.

3. However, while they want to read the status, the error message appeared.

Please be informed that EVM detection is no more problem now.

I'm still not sure what is wrong. If they do not press the Read Status button, are they able to still set the device? When the EVM starts up, I think the first thing the GUI does is read status to get the values in the device. 

When the EVM starts, what is the setting of the Current Output (this is the current output readout in the GUI)? What is the current in the loop measured with an ammeter?

After that, if they do not press the Read Status button, can they set the current output value using the GUI?

Customer just press the read status button after EVM and GUI are connected and the error message show up.

I'm not sure why the GUI isn't working. If the error message says that the VISA or VISA code library cannot be found, then it's still possibly an problem loading in the proper library. Is there a previous labview installation on this computer? 

At this point, one I can think of is to uninstall the NI-VISA drivers that were just installed and uninstall the DAC161S997EVM GUI, and start again to reload both. Another possibility would just to be to load the DAC161S997 on another computer. 

Other than those two options, I don't have any other ideas. I'll ask around, but I don't know of any other possible resolution at this moment.
