DAC70004: Output protection

Part Number: DAC70004

Hi there,

Do these devices have internal clamp diodes on the output? I do not expect output currents of more than 10mA from the DAC and so this may be sufficient if there are internal clamp diodes to prevent the output swinging beyond +0.3V VDD and -0.3V GND (e.g under ESD condition). Do I need to add these diodes externally?

Many thanks.

  • Hi Steven,

The device will never drive its own output beyond the supply voltages.  The absolute max limits are to ensure that in application an external current does not drive the output beyond the supplies.  The output has ESD protection which will protect the output from fast transients, but these cannot sustain current for extended periods.  If you suspect an external current to be sustained on the output, then I recommend external protection.
