AFE7070EVM: Testing AFE7070EVM with TSW1400EVM

Part Number: AFE7070EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7070

I am having the same problem. Is there a solution to this probem?

  • I am  trying to test the AFE 7070 EVM) board with TSW-1400 EVM interface with S/W High Speed Data Converter Pro GUI Installer V5.2 (REV. W).

    I have followed the test procedure as stated in the user guided manual, all I am getting is the LO leakage  (2.1GHz) comming out, look like as through no data has been send to the AFE7070 EVM board from the  TSW-1400 EVM. The TSW-1400 EVM with firmware  version 15.15 doesnot  show the correct interface type as per example with Firmware Version = 0.2  Interface Type = DAC_CMOS_INTLY. The TSW LED status does not show any light ON. Please refer to the attachment.

    I would like to thank you in advance for your help and support .

  • Please response ASAP much appricated for your support.

  • Sorry for the delay...my previous response did not seem to get uploaded properly to the system.

    First, I recommend getting the board operational without the TSW1400.  The AFE7070 is equipped with an NCO so you can get a single tone signal out without sending a pattern.  Set the clock frequency to 2x the desired sample rate.  Initially you can disable the FIFO, the QMC correction, and set the NCO parameters correctly.  I initially set the clock trim to 2.  The trim settings can be set to 0 for maximizing the integrated low pass filter.

    Once the device is set-up properly without the pattern generating, you can introduce the TSW1400.  Most issues stem from clock issues.  Ensure the clock setting is set to LVPECL and is at the proper frequency (2x desired sample rate).  It is odd that FW was not loaded properly in the TSW1400.  The FW should be loaded when the ini is selected.  You can also load the FW manually through HSDC Pro software.

  • As per your suggestion I disconnected the TSW1400 and set the clock input to 130MHz@ 0dbm , the LO input set to 2.1GHz @ 5dBm .

    Please refer to the attachment with the output.

  • The TSW1400 then connected to the AFE7070 and setup as per user manual. I could not see any change. Please refer to the attachment.

    notices:

    No interface Typre =

    No   LED light shown on the TSW1400 too.

  • It is odd that FW was not loaded properly in the TSW1400.  The FW should be loaded when the ini is selected.  You can also load the FW manually through HSDC Pro software.

    Hi RJ Hopper : Can you please provide the FW?

  • This suggestion did not resolved my issue.

  • Duong:

    Very good that you confirmed AFE7070 set-up is proper using the NCO.  It is odd that your install does not have the proper FW.  Let's check something first.  Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\High Speed Data Converter Pro\1400 Details\Firmware.  Do you see the firmware DAC_CMOS_INTLV.rbf there?  If not, perhaps a re-install of HSDC Pro will resolve the issue.  If that does not resolve, I will forward the FW off-forum.

    --RJH

  • Hi RJ Hopper,

    Yes I can see the DAC_CMOS_INTLV.rbf firmware in the folder, please refer to the attachment.

  • OK, very good.  Next thing to check is to verify that the ini file is properly calling out that FW.  Open this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\High Speed Data Converter Pro\1400 Details\DAC files\CMOS_AFE7070.ini.  Inside the file there should be a line that reads: Interface name="DAC_CMOS_INTLV".  That is the instruction to load the proper FW file.

    If for some reason the FW does not load properly, you can load it manually in HSDC Pro Instrument Options pull-down menu.

    --RJH

  • Yes I can the file and with the Interface name="DAC_CMOS_INTLV"

    Inside CMOS_AFE7070.ini

    [DAC]

    Interface name="DAC_CMOS_INTLV"
    Number of channels=4
    Number of Bits=14
    Max sample Rate=125000000
    interp=1
    Bus=16
    config1=48
    config2=1
    Format Pattern=-1,-2,1,2,-1,-2,1,2,-1,-2,1,2,-1,-2,1,2,-3,-4,3,4,-3,-4,3,4,-3,-4,3,4,-3,-4,3,4

    //+ for msb
    //eg -1,-2,1,2= lsb of 1st channel data,lsb of 2nd channel data,
    // msb of 1st channel data,msb of 2nd channel data.
    Read EVM Setup Procedure="EVM Setup Procedure not available"
    \\use <> as delimiter for newline

    I did a manual Reload Device INI and nothing happen, please see attachment.

  • Hi RJHopper,

    Just to confirm we are running the AFE7070 EVM Software Control and the High Speed Data Converter Pro v5.20  with TSW1400 board in Windows 10.

    We are really stuck at this point and need to resolve this issue as soon as possible before ordering a PCB board.

    Much appreciated for your help and support.

  • Please response.

  • Duong:

    Previously you confirmed that the ini file setting is correct and that the firmware is properly located on your machine.  It still looks like it is not getting the FW uploaded properly.  That is strange.

    Can you manually load the FW?  Under Instrument Options menu, there is a selection to load FW.  From there you can select the proper FW file that we previously identified.

    I am wondering if there is some security software on your machine that is preventing HSDC Pro from loading a file from your C: directory.  If you have the ability, try to run HSDC Pro in the "run as administrator" option.  Also perhaps you can experiment with a different computer to see if there is any difference.  Simultaneously, I will confer with our software development team to see if this type of error has occurred previously.

  • Duong:

    Also double-check the current limit on your supply to the TSW1400.  You can juice this up to 4A to make sure there is enough headroom when the FW is uploaded.  When the FW is uploaded, there is a surge of current.  If the supply can't keep up, you will have a brown-out situation and the FW will fail to load.

    --RJH

  • Hi RJ Hopper,

    Yes you are right my issue was the current limit on my PSU to the TSW1400. When I set  to 4A it load the FW correctly. This has revolved my issue.

    Thank you very much for your help and support much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Duong Tran
