How can I sample ADC with Trigger

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC081C021, ADS7041, ADS7888

Hello,

I want to sample the analog signal entering an external ADC IC such as ADC081C021 with a trigger signal from either MCU or other circuitry.

As an example, let's say there is a comparator such as TLV370x that generates a trigger. Then this trigger is supplied to MCU so it can trigger the ADC IC or directly connect to ADC IC.
I want to measure the ADC value when there is a trigger with as little delay as possible (<1us).

Is there ADC with a sample trigger capability that you can recommend?

  • Hi Arca,

Welcome to our e2e forum!  I'm not aware of any converters in our portfolio with an I2C interface that can do what you are asking for.  If you can work with an SPI interface, devices like the ADS7888 or ADS7041 might be an option for you.  These devices have a simple 3-wire interface where the chip select (/CS) pin can be used to trigger the start of the conversion process.  Once the conversion is complete, the device goes back into acquisition mode until it sees another falling edge of the /CS pin.
