Hey Thomas, 

This device uses a 250Mbps 1.8V CMOS digital interface. Many FPGA's will directly support this CMOS interface directly. If you'd prefer to use an LVDS interface with your FPGA I would recommend the ADC3663, which is a very similar device with a serial LVDS interface.

So no hope of Linux industrial i/o support like these other TI devices?

At this time we do not plan do support Linux industrial i/o support for our high speed data converters. 

so we have no choice but to bit bang?

We do not have any API for this device and the only solution will be to utilize 3 wire spi. If you have any other questions regarding the device, please let us know.
