I am using DAC37J82EVM on TSW14J56EVM. I would like to automate setting the NCO freq, instead of having to manually enter it using the DAC3X8X GUI. Now I type the freq - eg in box AB, and click "Perform SIF SYNC". Is it possible to replace manual entry by programming ?

Hi Des,

Yes, you should be able to automate this using register writes and the 'Load Config' feature in the 'Low Level View' tab of the DAC3xJ8x GUI.

Pages 69-70 of the DAC37J82 datasheet show the required register writes to set the NCO frequency (addresses 0x14 -> 0x19).

How can one write to these registers without the GUI? Is there a Windows driver program or library that we can use to make these register writes?

Hey Richard,

I have some tools for doing this. I'll take a look at the schematic for this EVM and write up a top level script and send you over some python you can use.

Hey Richard,

Here is a little software package written in python that should get you started. Note this will not work if you have the DAC GUI already open as the DAC GUI grabs the FTDI chip and makes it inaccessible to other software from using it. The top-level script is main.py. Let me know how it goes!
