Hello,

I have purchased the ADS5409EVM and TSW1400EVM kits. I have connected these kits to each other using the relevant interface points. After that, I am supplying power to both the ADC and the Capture Card via USB. Additionally, I am providing 5V power to the Capture Card's power input. However, I am encountering an error (DDR Error, Time out) while capturing data using the HSDC Pro application. Moreover, the USER_LED3 is not lighting up. Could this be due to not supplying a clock to the ADC card? Do I need to provide an external clock to the ADC card? If I need to provide an external clock, what should be the frequency of the clock in MHz to achieve a sampling rate of 900 MSPS? I would like to use the device up to a sampling rate of 900 MSPS.

Can the Si5351 module be sufficient for me? I intend to use it at a sampling rate of 800 MSPS.

Is there any other clock source that you would recommend?

Hi Furkan,

Yes, a clock must be applied to J1. If you want to sample at 900MSPS then you will need to provide a 900MHz clock input.

To achieve datasheet performance, you must use RF signal generators. I am not familiar with the module you describe but as long as the amplitude meets the requirements of the device, it should be sufficient for functional tests.

Hello again,

In the link below, I see that it applies a 10MHz sync signal (figure 6) and receives data at a sampling rate of 800MSPS (figure 8). Is there a PLL on the ADS5409EVM board?

Hi Furkan,

The 10MHz synchronization signal in figure 6 is a 10MHz reference between RF signal generators to ensure coherency at their outputs. One of the RF signal generators is outputting the clock (800MHz) and the other is outputting the input signal (~185MHz). There is no PLL within the ADC and there is no clock synthesizer on the EVM, so a clock has to be applied to J1 before the device will function.

Thank you very much for the information. If I buy one of CDCE62005EVM and CDCM9102EVM as clock generator, can I run it without needing to buy anything else?

Hi Furkan,

Just wanted to confirm with you that you are aware the CDCM9102 is a fixed 100MHz output and will not sample this device at 800MSPS. The CDCE62005 is a bit more complex. I suggest you look at and use our clocking products software ( https://www.ti.com/tool/TICSPRO-SW ) to determine if the frequency you are interested in generating with CDCE62005 is capable.
