Using ADS1298ECGFE-PDK for EEG measuring

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298ECGFE-PDK, ADS1298, INA331

Dear All,

Kindly, asking about using the demo kit ADS1298ECGFE-PDK to digitize and interface 6 sensor signals and analyze them with the software ADS1298ECG-FE??

The signals are on active voltage of about 5uV.

Yours truly,

Mahir

  • Hello Mahir,

We're happy you're looking into using our devices!! What specific questions do you have in regards to the ADS1298ECGFE-PDK/software?

I would also like to urge you to view our "Design Notes" page, where we have a lot of FAQs, and details regarding the ADS1298 devices, and how they relate to EEG applications. This may be a great place to start.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Hello Michael,

Thank  you for your reply, I am new for this type of programmable boards, but sure that TI team will always support me!!!

I am planning to use the evaluation board along with the analysis software to read and analyze the EEG signal, the analog part is performed using INA331 and OPA266 amplifiers, the output of these amplifiers needed to be digitized by the ADS1298 and read by the PC.

This is the project idea, and I am planning to use the same ECG software to read the EEG signals as it will be helpful in the analysis and saving the data. the EEG data are slow (about 5-10 Hz) and of low voltage (10-50uV) so I need  to know the sensitivity  of the board, and from where i need to start reading about the programming of the board?

    Best regards.

    Mahir

  • Hi Mahir,

The noise floor is the first concern here. This is described in detail starting on page 9 of the ADS1298 Datasheet. But, it seems that your prestage amplifiers might be a good fit, to amplify your signals sufficiently above the noise floor of the device (being particularly careful not to exceed the maximum ratings of the device- page 3 of the datasheet). The frequency is fine, as is (we test these boards using a 10Hz sine wave @50mVpp - you may view This Post for more information on the test signal).

As far as programming goes, we use SPI interface to communicate with /program the MMB0 board (which comes with the PDK). The User's Guide, page 20 in particular, discusses how to change some of the Registers with the GUI, as well as the Register functions, and the register map is on page 34. Unless you're wanting some example code to use, in which case we'll have to send you some. Just let us know, and we can.

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for this great information.

So, the demonstration kit can be considered as a programmer board with full capability to program ADS1298. So that I can use it to program the ADS1298 according to my demands, and then remove it and install it in my PCB (circuit) and start working.

Also, the noise floor of the ADS1298 is 7uV max., and the max. rating is ±Vref/G=5/6= ±0.8V ?? so the analog signal must be within the ±0.8V?

Finally, can we help me about how to fit this BGA IC to the PCB as i am making my PCB's at home and this type of package is not easy to handled.

    Best Regards.
