DAC8565: Analog Output, Package-Package Time Skew

Hi there!

Multiple DAC8565s are used in a project. The settling time is given 8us (typ) and 10 us (max) in the datasheet. My question is about the variation of this parameter between multiple DACs operating at the same temperature. Assuming that digital interfaces are perfectly synced, what would be the expected synchronicity between analog outputs? Let's say that DAC1 has 8 uS settling time. Can DAC2 (at the same temperature) have 10 uS settling time? Can we estimate the expected synchronization error on analog outputs between DACs operating at the same temperature?

Hi Alper,

We have not really characterized this, but my assumption is that the it should be minimal, maybe <1µs. It depends on the capacitive load more than anything, and that can vary by PCB design.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to say that all units are identical. There are identical boards with DAC8565. I am trying to synchronize the output of DACs. Let's assume that the impedance seen by output amplifiers are the same. Considering internals of DAC, can I achive a order of tens of nanoseconds?

Hi Alper,

I really cannot say for sure if they would be matched to that tight margin. That would require some process distribution information that I do not have. I think <100ns is likely, but ultimately only characterization would confirm.
