AMC7812B: AMC7812B : Remote Temperature Sensor

Part Number: AMC7812B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP461

I am attempting to utilize the MMBT3904 in conjunction with the AMC7812B's Remote Temp Sensor function. As I work on designing the PCB layout, I have searched for a layout guide; however, I have been unable to locate one in both the datasheet and the EVM User Guide.

Regarding my inquiries:

(1) Is 100-Ohm Differential Routing required for D+ and D+ connections?

(2) What is the maximum allowable trace distance between the AMC7812B and the transistor, while still maintaining effective Remote Temp Sensing?"

  • Hi Jason,

This datasheet was created before we started having application sections in our datasheets. Instead, you can look at the TMP461 datasheet https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tmp461.pdf. This datasheet has a layout section that has information on layout for remote temperature sensors.

    1) This is not required, but differential routing is recommended.

    2) Ideally, the device should be as close as possible to the remote transistor. The TMP461 datasheet has recommendations for <8 inch routing and >8 inch routing.

    Thanks,
    Erin
