TX7316EVM: problem

Part Number: TX7316EVM

Hello,

I recently bought a new TX7316EVM, but there was a problem when I used it for the first time.

According to the user's guide, I connect the power supplies(±5V,±50V,±100V). After pressing the switches S1 and S2, I see the waveform in off-chip beamforming mode on the oscilloscope, which is same as the user's guide. Then I turn off the power supplies, connect the USB cable to the board and open the GUI. Select 5-level mode. After that, I turn on the power supplies and find that the +5V supply is limited. The voltage from TP1 to GND is 0.026V.

I confirm that the voltage supplies are correct, and there is no visible damage on the board. What is the cause of this? Can I send it back for repair or apply for sales return?

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

It might be possible that board is configured in 3-level and you are trying to configure it in 5-level mode. Can you try opening the GUI in 3-level mode first?

    Thanks!

    Regards,

    Shabbir

  • Hello,

I see R22, R66, R67...... are on the board, and R23, R61, R64...... are not on the board, so I think the board is configured in 5-level. Besides, I haven't changed the components on the board since I bought the EVM.

I open the GUI in 3-level mode as you suggested, but +5V supply is still limited. The problem hasn't been solved. Please help me.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

I see you havent applied the supply on A-side. Can you apply the supply on marked connector also and check?

    Thanks!

    Regards,

    Shabbir

  • Hello,

I apply the supply to all three connectors as you said, but the +5V is still limited.

This is my second time to buy TX7316EVM. The old board has been used for a few months, but it has a +5V limited current problem someday and D10 is not lit. The new board also has the same problem when it is first used and the D10 and D11 are not lit. The power supplies and wires I use have not changed. Can you help me find the reason of EVM failure? Does the sequence of connecting the USB cable to the board and turning on the power supplies affect usage?

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

I see the max current limit of 5V supply is set to 0.2A. Can you set the max current limit to 0.5A and see if 5V supply comes up and EVM works?

    Regards,

    Shabbir

  • Hello,

I set the max current limit to 0.5A now, but +5V supply doesn't come up. It is still limited and shows 2.2V. The EVM doesn't work and there is no wave on the oscilloscope.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

Can you please confirm if you work in offline mode, you are able to take 5V supply to 5V level and how much current does it take?

    Thanks!

    Regards,

    Shabbir

  • Hello,

At first, it seems correct in offline mode of 5-level, just like the following picture:

Then I turn off all the power supplies. After connecting the USB cable to computer, I find that +5V supply is limited when I turn on the power supplies again. Now, whether in offline mode or online mode, +5V supply is limited in both modes. I measure the voltage at these test points:

    TP1-GND: 0.026V     TP2-GND: 1.60V     TP3-GND: 0.04V     TP4-GND: 2.05V     TP5-GND: -5.01V

    Thanks and Regards

  • Thanks for sharing TP voltages. Many of LDOs are seems to gone bad. Not sure why exactly it has happened but in past we have seen a surge current from USB can cause damage. To protect EVM, we have placed the isolators on the EVM so we didn't expect it to happen.

We can discuss next plan but would like to discuss it over mail. Can you reach us at support_us_afe_tx@list.ti.com for further discussion?

    Thanks!
