USB2ANY and DAC80508

Good morning

I am trying to use the USB2ANY with the DAC80508EVB.

When starting with the DAC80508 software the 3V is not available. I think it is needed by the EVB

If I start the USB2ANY utility I can switch on the 3,3 volts, but I need to use the DAC80508.

There is a problem with the versions also, the USB2ANY wants the 2,8 release while the DAC80508 wants the 2.7

So in the moment I cannot use the DAC80508 software because there is no 3V available. And I do not follow what is the software behaviour 

since it is always necessary to upgrade the version for the USB2ANY and the DAC80508

    The board is in the original configuration. Only the VIOSEL jumper is closed. All of the others are open.

    I fail to attach a picture here...

    In my opinion it is necessary to short TP6 and TP8 to ensure the I/O has power. 
    I think the problem is not the jumper configuration but the impossibility to switch on the  3.3V in the USB2ANY 
    while using the CAC80508EVM software. The switch appears to be not accessible.

    But it is accessible using the USB2ANY-Explorer-2.7.0.0 . The configuration of the switch does not survive to the 
    updating of the firmware, necessary because they work with different versions.

  • I think it is enough to connect an extenal 3.3 V to the EVB

  • Hi Pietro, 

    You are correct that 3.3V is enough to supply the DAC80508 and you can short TP6 and TP8 instead of supplying an external VDD supply. You do have to be careful that the USB port on your computer will supply enough current for the device when all 8 channels are turned on and connected to a load. If the current is too high and the USB triggers a current limit then you will need to use an external supply for TP6. 

    You should not be using the DAC80508EVM software and the USB2ANY explorer tool at the same time. The EVM GUI will switch on the 3.3V supply on the USB2ANY and configure the communication lines for SPI communication.

    I have verified the 3.3 volt is not automathically on with the DAC software. And I do not see the option to turn on.

    Also the USB2ANY and the DAC80508 software they require the different firmware revision. No way to do without the update.
    So I will test with the external power supply. I wil write here when I will afford to do the test.

    It is working now somehow.
    I need to understand a point on the device. 

    What means: 

    Reference alarm bit. Reads 1 when the difference between VREF/DIV and VDD is below the required minimum analog threshold.

    It is the alarm bit in the status register: REF-ALM.

    It happens to be one if the REF DIV bit is set to divide by 1,

  • Yes evidently. But It could produce some output anyway. I was always confused because there  is no output at all if the divider is not 2.

    Anyway now it is working.
