ADS1278EVM-PDK: -

Part Number: ADS1278EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO

Hello,

I was using the ADS1278EVM-PDK(set of motherboard and ADC board) with ADC pro software and was working well until yesterday. The problem I face now is whenever I load the plugin ADS1278EVM it tries to download and fails. It says reset the hardware and when I press the reset button on the motherboard it doesn't works which was working fine till yesterday. I checked other questions on the forum for this type of issue and came across the issues with the USBstyx and the MMBO drivers. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled as mentioned in the forum but the issue still persists. Also, I checked the voltages coming out of the motherboard from J5 and it matches to what's given in the schematics. Checked the same for the ADC board J5 pins and everything looks fine. Just to let you know I am using Windows 11, version 22H2.

Let me know if you need further information.

Thanks & Regards,

Ali Husseni

  • Hello Ali,

This error can occur if the USB communications is corrupted, or if there is no USB connection between the PC and the MMB0 board.  Can you check your device driver to confirm that the PC recognizes the MMB0 board?

Before starting ADCPro, power-up the MMB0 board and then connect the USB cable.  You should see the MMB0 (NI-VISA) driver in Device Manager.

    A few options:

    1.  Try using a different USB port on your PC.

    2.  Try using a different USB cable.

    3.  Verify that all 4 green LEDs are lit in the lower righthand corner of the MMB0 board.

We have not tested the software on Windows 11, but you already had it working, so I do not think this is the source of the problem.

  • Hey Keith,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I see the MMB0 (NI VISA) in the device manager before turning on the ADCPro. Also, I verified that all 4 green LED's are lit on the MMB0 board.

The only thing which looks weird to me is before uninstalling the software I used to see the USBstyx in the device manager but now I don't see it anymore in both cases without turning ON the  ADCPro software and with turning ON the ADCPro software and trying to load EVM which eventually fails. I also tried different ports and different USB cables. I am facing this issue after a windows update. Do you think that would have an impact ? Is there any way to solve this issue if that's the cause?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Ali

  • Hi Ali,

When you first plug in the USB cable, with the MMB0 board powered up (all 4 LEDs green), you will initially see the MMB0 (NI VISA) in the device drivers.  After the firmware has successfully loaded, then the driver will switch over to USBstyx, but in your case, the boot-up process is not getting this far.

We have never tested this EVM on Windows 11, only on Windows 10, and in most cases (not all), the drivers will correctly install.  Even though the drivers are signed, it is still possible that with the new Windows update you are no longer able to install or load the USBstyx driver.  I would suggest trying this on a different PC, preferably running Windows 10 or earlier.

The software was developed to install and run on Windows 7; we updated the software to include signed drivers so that most PCs running Windows 10 could successfully get the software to work.

    Keith

  • Hello Ali,

Other customers have had issues getting this EVM to work using Windows 11.  If you have an older PC running Windows 7, this is the preferred operating system.  The EVM software also works for most customers under Windows 10 as well (this is the version of Windows that I use with these EVM's).

I assume you have been able to get this working.  If you have any additional questions, feel free to either add to this e2e thread or create a new e2e post.

    Regards,
    Keith
