TLA2022: Resolution related issues of chips

Part Number: TLA2022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLA2024

Regarding the application of ADC, there is a question for TLA2022. When the range is set to 4.096v, can the differential resolution be increased by twice as much as a single end?

For example, the one I identified in the picture above, can a single end achieve 1mv accuracy?

  • Hello,

When the range is set to 4.096v, can the differential resolution be increased by twice as much as a single end?

The TLA2022 is a differential part and does not have a single-ended mode. If you would like to have an LSB size of 1mV and a range of 0-4.096V you will need to use the ±2.048V FSR and apply a 2.048V reference voltage to the AIN1 pin to offset the FSR to your desired FSR. Keep in mind that for this setup the accuracy of your measurements will depend on the accuracy of your reference.

Also note that while the TLA2024 is a similar part that does have an input MUX for single-ended measurements it also cannot be used to make 1mV measurements over 4.096V because the output format is still in two's complement.
