TSW54J60EVM: TSW54J60EVM: Software

Part Number: TSW54J60EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSW14J50EVM

Hello,

I hope you are well,

Customer is having question related to TSW54J60EVM,

Please find a original question below:

Customer would like to control it (parameterize and read data) with their
own software (.NET, Win10). Is there an installation (DLL, procedure
declarations) for this?

We are building a device where a repeating intensity sequence (32000
samples) has to be read in and digitized very fast (> 1 kHz) and very
often (> 1000 times), we want to do this with the data acquisition module
TSW14J50EVM and the ADC card ADS54J2DEVM. The sequence is then to be
transferred via USB to our program for evaluation. To control this card we
need a software installation, the declaration of the procedures and the
calling sequence. For this there is usually a demo program included.Thanks.

Could you please advise on that?

Thanks

  • Hi Grzegorz,

Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to support this. Our evaluation modules are meant for basic performance evaluation and although we have a dll to automate the evaluation process, it is far too slow for what this customer is attempting to do. Another major concern is this ADC is not going to operate at anywhere near a 1kHz sample rate. It is intended for GHz sample rate. There will not be enough data at kHz rate to establish a JESD link between this device and the FPGA. I suggest the customer look into our high precision ADC products as this is much better suited for the desired application. https://www.ti.com/data-converters/adc-circuit/precision-adcs/overview.html

  • Hello,

Please find the response from our Customer:

Customer said that there is a small misunderstanding and provide information below:

With a 1 kHz trigger cycle, we want to record 32,000 measured values per
trigger pulse for one second, so in one second 1000 blocks of 32,000
    values = 32,000,000 samples per scan = 64,000,000 bytes for a complex
    measurement with 12 bit ADC.
Unfortunately I have no access to the site below even if I am logged in.

    One more question:
Is internet access mandatory to operate the mentioned card with your GUI?
Our device computers do not have internet access.

    Could you advise on that?

    Thanks

  • Grzegorz,

Even with these clarifications from the customer, this is unattainable. Our software is not capable of triggering beyond a 1Hz trigger. The customer will have to create custom fpga firmware to accomplish this utilizing some form of circular buffer to store off the data after each of their triggers. Our software infrastructure does not support this as it writes all captured data to block ram and ddr upon receipt of trigger, and at best is capable of receiving a periodic trigger of around 1Hz.

I cannot help with why the customer cannot access the precision ADC link. It is nothing special and is just our main ti.com page. Software runs locally but they would need internet connection to download one time.

  • Hello,

Customer return with one more question:

''We have the TI data acquisition module TSW14J50 EVM, the TI
ADC-ADS54J20 EVM card and the TSE71 EVM clock generator. We work with your
"HSDCProAutomation_64Bit.dll" in order to use your software"High Speed
Data Converter Pro.exe" (64Bit), the template was your source codeyour
source code "HSDCPro Automation DLL ADC Example.cpp".We have the
following questions:1. is there a start parameter for the software "High
Speed DataConverter Pro.exe" software so that it appears in the "NOT
CONNECTED" state without thethat the "Select Board" and "Select a Device"
dialogues are displayed?2. what do we have to do to realise a doubling of
the ADC sampling raterate that appears in the "Samples" display as a
doubling of the wavelength?wavelength in the "Samples" display?''
    could you please assist?

    Thanks

  • Hi Grzegorz,

There is no function to connect to the software without the mentioned pop-ups appearing. This is just how the software is built. Regarding the second question, can you please have the customer provide an image of what they are talking about? A simple screenshot with highlighted section for the field they are wanting to update to twice as much will suffice.
