AFE10004EVM: Communication Error (-49 Error) ?

Hello, 

I've gone through the user guide and downloaded the I2C version of the AFE10004EVM GUI. I've also downloaded version 2.7 of Python. When attempting to communicate to the EVM I continue to run into an Error message (-49). 

When attempting to communicate I have the board configured for positive output range. I am using a 5V external supply.  I've also established that I am not in demo mode and am connected via the USB2ANY. 

Is there something I am missing in order to properly communicate to the EVM?

    This error is usually due to the AFE10004 not properly asserting ACK during an I2C command, usually because the device is not fully powered.  Can you detail how you have the jumpers configured? Could confirm the VIO, RESET, and VDD voltages?

  • J9 = No connect

    J8 = Pins tied through Jumper 

    J10 = Pins tied through jumper

    J11 = Shunted in position 2-3, VSS to GND

     J12 = I2C pins 1-2, 3-4 jumpered. 

    J7 = A0, A1, A2 Jumpered 

    J5 = Jumpered pins 1-2

    VDD = 5V ; VIO = 3.3V ; RST/ALARM = 3.3V 

    Also on the external supply the current draw is ~0.5A.

    It sounds like you configured the EVM as shown, correct? The AFE is drawing a substantial amount of current. This means the AFE is either damaged, or your external power supply is connected to ground somehow. Also, are you powering the VIO voltage externally? If you have J8 jumpered and an external voltage on B1, this could cause errors. 

    If this looks to be an issue with the device, we will sample you a new board at no cost to you.

    Yes, the EVM is configured per the figure. The external supply I am using is an E3631A. Definitely not connected to ground. I am also not powering the VIO externally. 

    Sadly its looking more like a issue with the device.
