ADS1278-SP: Can ignoring recommended power sequence damage device or compromise reliability?

Part Number: ADS1278-SP

The datasheet for this part recommends a power up sequence of DVDD-> IOVDD-> AVDDD.... Would it damage the device or compromise reliability (Over a long life) in any way if this sequence was ignored and was powered up AVDD-> DVDD -> IOVDD?

  • Hello Jesse,

Welcome to the TI E2E community.

The device reliability will not be compromised if the power up sequence is not observed.  However, the internal power-up reset will not work correctly if the recommended power-up sequence is not met, but this can be corrected by asserting the SYNC pin after all power supplies have settled to the recommended nominal voltage levels.

It is important to note that during power-up, none of the input pins can exceed the ABS maximum recommended values.  For example, as the IOVDD supply ramps up to the final value, the instantaneous voltage on the digital inputs must not exceed -0.3V or IOVDD+0.3V..
