ADS131M04: Device recommendation similar to ADS131M04 with a conversion trigger

Part Number: ADS131M04

Hey Precision ADC team,

I have a customer evaluating our PADC portfolio for a new design and we were hoping you could help point us in the right direction in terms of ADC selection.

At the moment ADS131M04 (4-channel simultaneous sampling ADC) is nearly ideal for the application, except they really want the ability to trigger conversions with an input pulse. The ADS131M04 does have a way to synchronize with an external clock source, but the problem with that function is that it clears the sinc filters on every sync, which we do not want.

If you have suggestions for similar parts that perhaps have a dedicated CONV input or any other way to start the conversion externally, that would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Matt Calvo

  • Hi Matt,

The digital filter on delta-sigma ADCs require time to settle after a resynchronization event occurs, and they do not have a dedicated CONVST Start pin. Many SAR ADCs have a dedicated CONVST Start pin which can be used to synchronize with an external event, but they do not have 24-bit resolution, you can check ADS8584S which is a 4-ch, simultaneously sampling SAR ADC, please notice that this kind of ADC also requires time to settle signal on internal low-pass filter for input range change, wakeup from standby or shuntdown mode.

    Regards,

    Dale

  • Thanks for the feedback and advice Dale! :)

I've passed this info along to my customer and will have them comment back on here directly with any follow-up questions they may have.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Matt,

Can you please put the customer name and project info the field of Notes in the Tracking Toolkit above? Can a 16 or 18 bit SAR ADC be accepted by the customer? We want to see if a new SAR ADC is a good fit.

    BR,

    Dale

  • Sure thing Dale!

I've pinged the customer to see if perhaps a 16 or 18 bit SAR ADC would be acceptable for the application and will report back with updates. What SAR ADC options are you referring to? Are they on the web yet?

  • Hi Matt,

Thanks for your information. Other apps engineer supports SAR ADC, you can check on TI.com or start a new thread to check the latest SAR ADC, the apps engineer will respond your query. If you have any questions about ADS131M04, please let me know.

    Regards,

    Dale
