PCM2903EVM: Can I connect 2 PCM2903EVM-s to one Linux PC and simultaneously use 1 as ADC and 1 as DAC?

Hi!

I am connecting a PCM2903EVM via USB to a Linux PC as ADC to digitize measurements. But I need to simultaneously play a sound file via the DAC in another PCM2903EVM, preferably connected via another USB plug on the same Linux PC. Each unit being used by different apps on the PC. Could that be a problem?

Hi Henrik,

I don't see an issue with this. However your use case is odd, since the PCM2903 is capable of using the ADC and DAC at the same time. Are you having an issue with running both or are you trying to simulate a larger system?

Maybe I am too worried? :-)

The reason I am considering using 2 separate PCM2903 units is because I am worried that the input signal (via the ADC) and the output signal (via the DAC) could influence each other - cross-talk noise and distortion? This is not an audio application, but a system for scientific measurements (via the ADC).

So any comments are very welcome.

Hi Henrik,

I see. Maybe you're measurement requires the extra precision, but the two channel's shouldn't influence each other an any way that's noticeable. Of course this is layout dependent, but I encourage you to try with just one EVM. It will probably save you effort and cost.
