ADS5474: 5962R1320801VXC Lid and Heat Sink Grounded?

Hello, I was wondering if the about heat sink and lid grounding? Are either grounded? Or does the sink need to be grounded to achieve grounding for both?

Hi Dimas,

The package does not have a conductive lid so it cannot be grounded if you tried. The power pad as it’s called does act as analog ground and must be grounded.

I should have referenced the -SP version. ADS5474-SP. This one has a metal lid that hermetically seals the package. But makes no mention of whether that lid is grounded. Nor any mention of whether the heat sink is grounded either.

Hi Dimas,

I will try to verify this for you. Many of these hermetic sealed packages from the ADS54xx family have a floating lid, not grounded.

Hi Dimas,

The metal lid is grounded to the heatsink (package backside), which means the lid is grounded.

So the heat sink needs to be soldered to ground to tie them both to ground?

Dimas,

Correct, the heat sink needs to be grounded (similar to as described above for the commercial package). The lid will be tied to this ground.
