Problem with the TI's evaluation board software for the ADS1232

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410, ADS1232REF

Hi, i''ve purchased a Ti's evaluation board for the AD converter ADS 1232 REF and i've been having some problems.

When I try to connect the board with the PC through the TI's software it's supposed to show "scanning" in the status during  the port test and then it must show the number of the COM port that are connected. When I connect the board I can see the "scanning" in the status but neither show a single COM nor gets out of the "scanning" state.

I tried to connect the board though the hyperterminal and the board sent the version of the program so I'm sure that the communication with the board is possible.

I'm running on a windows XP machine with the drivers correctly instaled (i've checked when I connect the board that the USB module is recognized and a COM port is assigned to it)

Is there any ideas of what's going on? Any way of solve this problem?

Thank you

Alejandro

  • Alejandro,

Sometimes there are conflicts between the COM drivers and Labview.  There has been an updated version of the software that can be found at our ftp site that you can download:

    ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADS1x31REF/Software/

I know I gave you a location for the ADS1x31REF, but the software is designed to run on all versions of the hardware we have.  Download the 1.3.0 version (1.3.1 version should work too, but it was modified for Vista and not fully tested on XP.)  You should reinstall the COM drivers.  The first time you run the setup program select 'No' when it asks if you have the COM drivers previously installed.  This will uninstall the COM drivers.  Run the setup again to reinstall the most current COM drivers.

  • Bob,

even i  had a similar problem to the one mentioned above...

I installed the PC software dat came with the installation CD...version 1.1.1

The installation went proper but was unable to connect to the board using GUI but could connect using hyperterminal  that is by setting up serial console.

On connection with gui the status freezes at scanning.

I tried the solution u gave above n installed version 1.3.0 as i m using windows xp professional..now the problem is the gui shows scanning but continuoulsy scans com 8 and com 11.....and repeats the cycle...

it is connected to com 11...but it continuously keeps on toggling between the 2 com ports...and never gets steady...

What could be the possible problem..??

  • Mihir,

I would suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the TUSB3410 drivers packaged with the version 1.3.  When you run the installation package you need to make sure that the most recent drivers are installed.  When you installed the 1.3 version, it is easy to accidentally uninstall the previous set of drivers.  This can happen if you allow the TUSB3410 driver setup to run again (first time installs and the second time it uninstalls.

I would verify that the drivers are truly installed by again connecting to a serial console.  If the device is not showing up, then completely reinstall 1.3 again.  If it does show up, then run the 1.3 setup including the driver setup again twice.  Once to remove the old driver, and the second time to install the driver.

If you still have trouble let me know and we can work things out in more detail.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • I too cannot get a connection started. What are the serial port baud rate, and other similar setting?

  • Hi David,

This information is in Section 5.1 of the ADS1232REF user's guide.
