ADS7054: Can one input be grounded to make this a single-ended input?

Part Number: ADS7054

Hey team,

Other than losing half the dynamic range, what are the potential downsides to grounding one of these ADC inputs? And how does losing half the dynamic range affect the operation of the circuit?

This is for a CT current sense measurement.

Thanks!
Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

You'll need a bias voltage to shift the AC output of the CT, so you could use 1.65V for that and apply the same to the (-) input of the ADS7054.  That would let you swing the (+) input from 0-3.3V.  You could also use the single ended to differential option shown in the datasheet in Figure 44 (you still need to bias the CT output). Grounding an input on the ADS7054 is not really an option.
