DAC121S101EVM: Cannnot use EVM

Part Number: DAC121S101EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, MSP430FR5969

Hello team,

My customer and I have trouble using this EVM. (The DAC121S101EVM is not recognized by my PC)

I have tried "DAC121S101EVM Booster Pack User’s Guide", but can't update USB Driver. (section 2.3 page7)
Because I can't find "MPS430-USB Example" on my Device Manager. (I am using Windows 10)
(I was able to complete section 2.2, which I have upgraded the firmware of the MSP430 Launch pad)

Would it be possible to check if you can complete the "DAC121S101EVM Booster Pack User’s Guide", and see

Also I can't find “TI_ADC_DAC_EVMs” on my directory of DAC12xSxxx folder.
Where is it located?

Best Regards,
Kei Kuwahara

  • Hi Kei,

I was able to find the TI_ADC_DAC_EVMs.inf file at C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\DAC12xSxxx\Driver.

I'm assuming the Firmware Upgrade application recognized your launchpad?

I'm have to see if I can find a MSP430F5529 to test this with.

    When I plugged in my MSP430FR5969, I didn't see any "MPS430-USB Example".

    Thanks,
    Lucas

  • Hi Lucas-san,

Thank you, I have found the TI_ADC_DAC_EVMs.inf file on my PC!

I'm assuming the Firmware Upgrade application recognized your launchpad?

Yes, The Firmware upgrade application has recognized my launchpad, and I have completed downloading "dac12xsxxx_fw-v0.87.txt" to the launch pad.
However, it doesn't show any "MPS430-USB Example".

    Best Regards,
    Kei Kuwahara

  • Hi Kei,

I was able to get a MSP430FR5929 and update the firmware successfully.
However, like you, I wasn't able to get the MSP430 USB Example to appear.

The driver for the ADC/DACs only mentions Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, so I have a suspicion the EVM-MSP may not work on the current Windows 10.

I would recommend using an external SPI controller or configure a launchpad manually to send specific SPI messages.
I will doublecheck next week with other engineers to see if I am missing anything.

We will look into updating this EVM format.

    Thanks,
    Lucas
