DAC8554: Is it okay to have AVDD unpowered while IOVDD is powered?

Part Number: DAC8554

On the DAC8554, our design may have the analog power rail (AVDD, 5V) powered off for extended periods while the digital power rail (IOVDD, 3.3V) remains powered.  All the digital inputs (SYNC, CLK, DIN, LDAC, ENABLE, A0, A1) will be driven low while in this state.

Is there any reliability concern with operating the DAC8554 in this mode for extended periods?

Thanks,
John

  • Hi John,

If you shut off AVDD, the device will go into POR mode. This means when you power AVDD back up, the DACs will output 0V. Besides this, I don't believe there will be any major issue with keeping IOVDD on while AVDD is unpowered.

    Thanks,
    Erin
