ADS8578S: CS + CONVSTA, CONVSTB from a single pin?

Part Number: ADS8578S

Hi,

Can I use a single MCU pin to drive CSn and CONVSTA / CONVSTB pins on ADS8578? Datasheet mentions a minimum of 10ns delay requirement between CSn rising edge to CONVSTA / CONVSTB rising edge. I have all three inputs controlled from a CS output from my MCU. I have tested this in my circuit and ADC works, however, I'm a bit concerned about long term effects of such violation of timing requirements.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Piotr

  • Hi Piotr,

Welcome to our e2e forum!  The rising edge of CONVST is what opens up the sample and hold switch inside the ADS8578.  The 10ns delay is there assuming that you are running the device at full speed - you can pick up some additional noise otherwise.  If everything is working for you and you are happy with the conversion results, I don't see any issues with your setup.  You won't damage the device driving all three pins together.
